Active Lane Keeping Assist

This system warns the driver by a vibration signal on the steering wheel if the vehicle is drifting out of its lane and intervenes with one-sided braking if the driver fails to react.

Every driver's attention starts to flag at some point, particularly on long trips. It's straight ahead all the way, and everything somehow looks the same. But tiredness and sheer inattentiveness quickly lead to drivers wandering out of their lane. Vehicles unintentionally leaving the road are the cause of one in six serious accidents in Germany. Such accidents account for more than one third of all traffic fatalities. Active Lane Keeping Assist provides a remedy here by warning the driver or even intervening via ESP® when it detects that the vehicle is leaving its lane.

Keeping you on track.

More detailed information

Changes may have been made since these images and films were produced.

Active Lane Keeping Assist operates from a speed of 60 km/h. The assistant is activated and deactivated via the menu in the instrument cluster.

The status is indicated by a symbol on the multifunction display. The assistant suppresses warnings and braking intervention as soon as the driver steers in the opposite direction, steps on the accelerator, brakes or changes lane. When other assistance and active safety systems such as DISTRONIC PLUS, ABS or PRE-SAFE® Brake intervene, corrective action by Active Lane Keeping Assist is automatically suppressed for as long as these other functions remain active. This ensures that the assistant only intervenes when it is really required for the driver's safety.
