AIRMATIC Dual Control adjusts the air springs automatically to a harder or softer setting according to the state of the road and the individual driving style – from comfortable to sporty.

The semi-active AIRMATIC Dual Control air suspension offers improvements over conventional steel-spring systems in terms of tyre noise/vibration and driving safety.

In sporty or comfort-oriented mode, the electronically controlled semi-active AIRMATIC Dual Control air suspension with ADS II adaptive damping system operates fully automatically. The electronics adjust the air springs, making them harder or softer according to the given driving situation. When the sensors detect a sporty driving style, the comfort-oriented basic suspension is automatically hardened. Suspension and damping can also be adjusted manually to a sporty or comfortable setting at the flick of a switch.

The electronic system uses four different damping levels (ADS II) to automatically align the damping force at each wheel with prevailing needs and the state of the road.

An integrated all-round level control system ensures a virtually constant level of ground clearance for added stability, even when the vehicle is carrying a full load. At speeds in excess of approx. 140 km/h the vehicle level is automatically lowered by approx. 15 mm to reduce drag. At speeds below approx. 70 km/h the vehicle is restored to its normal level.

On poor roads, you can raise the vehicle level manually by approx. 25 mm. The system will automatically return the vehicle to its normal ride height after the vehicle has travelled for some time at approx. 80 km/h or if it exceeds around 120 km/h.
