On detecting a risk of understeering in bends, ESP® performs specific braking intervention on the inner rear wheel to ensure precise and controlled cornering.

The Torque Vectoring Brake offers improved safety in critical cornering conditions. Upon the ESP® sensors which feature as standard on all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars detecting an understeering tendency as the driver accelerates in a bend, the stability programme performs specific braking intervention on the side of the vehicle which is on the inside of the bend. This gives rise to gentle rotary movement of the vehicle around the vertical axis. In addition to more precise and controlled cornering, the reduced risk of understeering also benefits active safety.
