In a head-on or rear-end collision, the NECK-PRO head restraints for driver and front-seat passenger actively slide forward and upward to support their heads in time to reduce the risk of whiplash injury.

The crash-responsive head restraints for driver and front-seat passenger play an important part in passenger safety and are standard items in many Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. Both the height and angle of the headrest can be adjusted to give optimum protection.

The NECK-PRO head restraints are connected to an electronic control unit: When the sensor system identifies a rear-end collision of a pre-defined severity of impact, it releases springs inside the head restraints which allow the head restraints to move forward by around 40 millimetres and upward by 30 millimetres, giving timely protection for the front passengers' heads. After they have been activated, the NECK-PRO head restraints can be unlocked with a tool which is provided and pushed back manually into their original position. They are then ready for use again straight away.

The optionally available NECK-PRO luxury head restraints with two additional flexible and individually adjustable side bolsters offer good lateral support for further enhanced comfort.
